Can we hire you to paint a full-wall mural in our dining room? We could only afford to give you like 40 bucks, but we'd stare at it every day for two hours to make up for it.
Now I'm going to go spam my social networking connections to buy many copies of Mysterius.

Hi Tom,
What brush/nibs do you use?
Thanks,
Brian
thanks, larry.
hi brian,
i covered most of that a few months ago in my "how to make a monroe" post.
http://bigbugillustration.blogspot.com/2008/08/how-to-make-monroe.html
the exception being that i've gone up a brush size (too much chocolate) and am using a #3 raphael 8404 now (with pelikan drawing ink A). still using a mix of pitt and staedler felt tip pens for the fiddly bits. that's if you're asking about b/w inks.
if you're curious about the colour stuff, there is a painting post brewing. i just don't have time to track down all the files right now. simply put, though, i paint everything with the same daler rowney watercolour set (about 20? cakes in a tin) and tubes of gouache (again daler rowney). as for brushes i just use an assortment
of brushes from the graveyard of past their prime inking brushes in a drawer beside my desk. i've found that quality of brush makes virtually no difference when painting.
that may just be me, though. i'm a wee bit tough on my brushes...
that help?
Excellent. Thanks. Yeah, hadn't had time to pour over every post. This is a very good and quite funny tutorial. I'd been using a #3 Scharff 3000, but recently switched back to the good ol' Series 7 #1. I'll try out the Raphael 8404 #2, and see how it feels. I love the fluidity of your line. So loose, varied and quick. Very inspiring. Looking at this blog made me inspired while blasting through inks last night on some very otherwise very boring pages. Thanks.
thanks brian,
the raphael brushes seem to be a size and a half up in numbering than the series 7's. so a raph 2 is between a 2 and 3 series 7. i switched a while ago because i found the quality to be about the same (if a little better) in the raph, and that they last roughly three times longer. and as i said, i am rough on brushes.
I picked up the first four issues of Mysterius today. You sir, are a freaking wizard.
thanks, brian.
you see kids? it's never to late to jump on board.
Hi Tom,
I was just in Toronto over the weekend for the Hot Docs Documentary festival, and lucky for me between films i happened past the Toronto library and found myself in comic heaven. I bought the first three issues of Mysterius the Unfathomable from your good self and i got you to sign them too. their great and i wish i could have bought one of the original pages.
im ordering issue four right now. looking forward to it already.
thanks, paul.
that's one more for the mysterius army.
as i'm sure you can understand the weekend was a bit of a blur for me. did we have a long conversation about hitchhikers?
Hi Tom,
i can well understand that place was packed, we didnt chat much i was just really impressed and inspired by your work and thought id say thanks. whats next after Mysterius?
poverty...
The "ducks" in line reminds me of Dr. Seuss' Sneetches. Fun drawing!

always happy to add one more to the mysterius army, paul.
it's way better than the kiss army.
